My engine is finally finished and dyno tuned. Click here to see the results. One of my goals in building the engine was to clean up the installation and eliminate, or hide, many of the wires, coolant hoses, vacuum lines, and other unsightly items in the engine compartment. I think I was partially successful. Other than the bundle of wires (45) leading back into the ECU/fuse/relay compartment, there will only be the two coolant hoses to the radiator in front, one coolant vent and the heater line in the rear, the fuel supply from the right side , and throttle cable. The valley between the cylinder banks became more crowded than I wanted, but all that stuff had to go somewhere.

The coils (2) are from a Ford 4.6L DOHC manufactured by MSD. Each coil will fire four spark plugs in wasted spark configuration. The plug wires are Magnecor. Magnecor made a wire set with 928 plug connectors on one end and supplied the Ford coil connectors for me to fit on the other end. I will need to make a plenum for the air intakes. The air will come in from the front and I'll have to provide an air filter too. It should fit without having to resort to a hood scoop or buldge.

The engine is a Devek built 6.5L with Marc's B1 cams, & Oliver 5.85" connecting rods. The heads have 968 (39mm) intake valves and minimal porting to keep normal drivability satisfactory. The block is from an '87 S4 and the heads are from my '90GT. The valve springs are Ford Pinto racing springs from Crane Cams.

The intake system is my own design which uses TWM Induction 50mm throttle bodies. The design goal was to achieve better torque and power above 4500 rpm than the stock intake. Marc Thomas offered his engine as a test mule to check initial feasibility of the design. The test was done in December of 2003 and was successful.

I made some changes to the oil sump. I added a full sump cover to help keep oil in the sump during turns, and crank scrapers to minimize oil trapped by the crank and rods. I added a windage screen at the rear part of the oil pan to keep oil thrown from the rotating assembly from hitting the oil pan bottom and splashing back up into the whirling mass. Finished engine installed in my '90GT. The stainless steel tubes over the intake air horns are for injection of 200 proof ethanol at wide open throttle. The ethanol power gain is about 30 hp.
