I wanted wider rear fenders to house wider wheels and tires and also to give the 928 some needed bulk at the rear. I could find none available that satisfied the way I thought the look should be. I decided to make my own, and after several months of work and learning, I've finished a good mold and have had a composite fab shop build a few sets. Here are a few pictures of the fender prototype for the right side. The finished fender will be a full cover from the rear of the door to the bumper cover. This will permit attaching the fender with screws with the fender entirely covering from the door opening to the rear bumper cover. The edges can be cut back and blended into the body shape for a permanent finished installation too. The fuel filler door can be cut out in a shape like the stock door, and the stock cover and hinge used with a suitable spacer underneath the hinge. Or, the filler door can be attached with a piano hinge at the bottom and suitable catch at the top to hold it closed. One of the aftermarket round aluminum, aircraft style fillers can be used too. I used the 2.25" Mocal Aero 300 series flush filler from BAT. I've designed, and manufacture, a cast urethane contoured backing plate to fit the inside of the fender which allows a flat recessed surface for the filler flange. This makes installation much easier.

It's difficult to see curvature and highlights with the white on white color. I did research having these made from metal rather than composite. The cost of metal was quite high. Beyond what I could afford. Composite is more affordable, and with modern urethane or epoxy adhesives, the attachment will be permanent. The wheel/tire is 12x17 Kinesis wheel and 335x35x17 tire. The wheel well width inside is 2.5" wider than the S4/GT. The wheel cutout follows a shape close to that of the GTS, but modified to fit with the S4/GT bumper cover and stock rocker cover. The cutout can be enlarged, or made more rectangular like the S4/GT if desired. I tried to have the fender shape flow naturally from the bumper cover around the wheel and blend in behind the door. I attempted to capture some of the 944 rear fender shape, but softer with a little of the 928 front fender contour too.

Fenders have been installed, but not finished and blended in to body contour. The left side has screws still in for clamping pressure as the adhesive cures. Yes Nicole, the side moldings will come off.

Air intake for the rear mounted engine oil cooler in the space normally occupied by the rear muffler. Plenty of room for an air duct above the wheel.
The finished rear fenders give quite a different look to the 928 S4/GT. This isn't so obvious from the 2 dimensional pictures as when seeing the car "in the flesh". The look is to shorten the rear overhang and give a "crouching, ready to spring" type appearance while retaining the unmistakable 928 identification. The view from the rear is like a wide GTS. The distance from the outside edge of one tire to the outside of the other is 77.5"
